Our “CLASSIC” coffee this month is from our long-term Rwandan producer, Mahembe Coffee. For over a decade, Justin has been at the forefront of producing excellent coffees in Rwanda & this lot comes from his family farm, Gituntu. We believe there’s a significant difference in the flavour expression compared to cherries collected from hundreds of smallholder farmers.
This coffee was pulped & dry fermented for up to 18 hours before being rinsed and dried on raised beds. The coffee at Mahembe goes through strict and rigorous sorting by hand to remove defects, with the majority of the workforce being women. This improves the cup quality, with coffees ending up tasting cleaner as well as sweeter.
We selected this coffee for its vibrant, juicy expression as expected from a “CLASSIC” Rwandan coffee. We’re also drawn into its depth and cooked sweetness, reminding us of ripe plums as well as brown sugar. We hope you will enjoy this coffee as much as we do.
