THE ORIGIN

In the town of Lonya Grande at 1850MASL, Juan Herrera has dedicated more than 20 years to improving specialty coffee in Peru. He works together with his brother, Marcos Herrera, on his farm, Maramutu, to grow some of the region's most exceptional coffees - Gesha and Red Bourbon being the few staple cultivars.

THE PROCESS

Cherries go through a traditional fully washed process. Firstly, cherries are pulped then dry fermented for 48H. At this elevation, fermentation happens at a slower rate due to the cooler climate, increasing the complexity of the coffee. After washing off the mucilage, cherries are left to dry on raised beds in greenhouses to the optimum moisture content. Being shaded from the direct sun allows for more even and slower drying which improves the lifespan as well as the flavour of the coffee.

This is the third Peruvian Gesha we’ve had the honour of showcasing!  Typically known for their aromatic florals and juicy body, this Gesha by Juan Herrera is gentle & fresh, with a sweetness reminding us of snow pears with fresh yellow florals.
