THE ORIGIN
Rwanda is an origin we admire, resilient throughout its recent tumultuous history. Mahembe is a family operation, a source of community support in the Nyamasheke region of Rwanda. We have proudly roasted and served their coffees since Day 1, firstly via Nordic Approach and now Latanier Coffee.
THE PROCESS
Coffees are harvested from Gituntu, one of 3 family farms owned by Justin. They are hand sorted meticulously before being laid in thin layers on raised beds, consistently raked and turned over to ensure even airflow and drying resulting in bright, clean coffees.
WHY WE CHOSE THIS COFFEE
Until a few years ago, it was illegal to export natural processed coffees out of Rwanda. Justin and his team have mastered the gentle fermentation and drying process, with distinct notes of stewed apples, sweet plums and deep violets.
