Our “Classic” coffee for the new year is this juicy Kenyan coffee from Karogoto Factory, produced by smallholder farmers from Tekangu Co-operative. The process of procuring coffees from Kenya is incredibly complex, starting from their unique grading channels to the milling & exporting. This coffee is graded as “AB”, which is typically a mix of large & medium sized dense cherries. Smallholder farmers all grow the usual 4 cultivars - SL28, SL34, Ruiru 11 as well as Batian. This is the juncture where we believe contributes to the evolution of the flavour profile of Kenyan coffees.

At Karogoto, the coffees are graded, pulped & dry fermented for 12-16 hours. The coffees are then washed, graded for a 2nd time before being soaked in clean water. This “double soak” is believed to increase the acidity & clarity of Kenyan coffees. Karogoto AB is incredibly crisp & juicy as expected, yet with an underlying botanical quality that adds to its complexity! We hope you will enjoy this coffee as much as we do!
