It has become evident that the profile of Kenyan coffees has evolved over the last decade. With changes to infrastructure in particular, we’ve seen the flavours of Kenyan coffees diversify. This is an AB lot from Kabingara Factory, one of the few wet mills owned by the Karithathi Farmers’ Co-operative Society (FCS).

Kenyan coffees have traditionally been milled and graded by size. AB lots are slightly smaller than their AA counterparts, but this is by no means an indicator of overall quality. In recent years, most factories have ceased implementing secondary fermentation, famously known as the “Kenyan-washed” process. This is thought to be a major contributing factor to the shift in the primary flavours of Kenyan coffees, alongside the consistent introduction of the Ruiru and Batian varieties.

Kabingara AB delivers a crisp acidity reminiscent of kumquat, followed by a poached fruit sweetness akin to red dates. The mouthfeel is smooth, with a lingering aftertaste of hawthorn. We hope you’ll enjoy this coffee as much as we do!
