We’re excited to welcome back Jaguara, this time with a lot called Benicio, named after Natalia & Andre’s son. This lot is made up fully of the Arara variety, a cross between Yellow Catuai & a disease resistant variety called Obata. Due to its compact nature, high yields & resistance to diseases, it became quickly popular with producers. Arara has also shown great potential for quality, winning a few competitions in the late 2010s.

Natalia & Andre are 2nd & 3rd generation producers respectively, who took over Jaguara estate from Andre’s father who founded it in early 2000s. Since taking over, he has pushed its focus towards producing mainly specialty coffees. This involved not only experimental processing, but also cultivating varieties which would complement these processes. This has truly opened our eyes to the wider spectrum of flavours as well as textures modern Brazilian coffees have to offer. Mm

We selected this lot not just for its prominent process-driven flavour, but also the silky yet dense texture of the Arara that is rather unique to Brazilian coffees. This coffee has a mellow cherry-like acidity with a unique note of juniper, with a sweet chocolate finish.
