Founded in 2009 in Agaro, within Ethiopia's Jimma Zone, the Nano Challa cooperative was established through the Technoserve initiative to enhance sustainability and quality in western Ethiopia. As the first washing station in the Agaro region, Nano Challa set a precedent for environmentally friendly and transparent coffee production. 

From its inception, Nano Challa implemented eco-pulpers to reduce water usage during processing. Additionally, they constructed water treatment systems utilizing Vetiver grass wetlands, which naturally filter wastewater before it is absorbed into the earth. These practices not only protect local waterways but also exemplify the cooperative's commitment to environmental stewardship. The cooperative also established farmer training programs and implemented a traceability system to ensure transparency and quality throughout the production process. 

The fully washed processing method at Nano Challa involves pulping cherries with eco-pulpers, soaking them for 12 hours to remove mucilage, and drying them on raised African beds. This meticulous approach enhances the coffee's clarity and brightness, resulting in a clean and expressive cup. 

This coffee offers a poised balance of flavour and mouthfeel. Nectarines and ripe persimmons unfold with natural ease, complemented by a delicate honeysuckle florality. It’s a composed expression of Ethiopia’s classic fully washed profile, showcasing the purity, finesse, and terroir-driven clarity that Nano Challa has become renowned for. This is the first year we’re showcasing these coffees from Nano Challa, and it’s truly a privilege.
