It’s always a bittersweet moment whenever we approach the tail end of our showcase for washed Ethiopian coffees. These coffees remain our favourite with its prominent acidity as well as balance of florals & fruit notes. This particular lot comes from the Hambela region of Guji at Haro Sorsa washing station. This is a “CLASSIC” Ethiopian coffee, produced by various smallholder farmers who live in the towns surrounding the wet mill. 

Haro Sorsa is located 2000MASL, which is relatively high even for Ethiopia. For the surrounding farmers, their harvests happen a little later due to the high altitude as cherries ripen slower. This can only mean 1 thing; if ripe picking, sorting & processing were done optimally, the coffees will be laden with sweetness & fortunately for us, this is the exact case! Whilst you’d normally expect extremely sweet coffees to be rich or heavy, Haro Sorsa is the exact opposite. The acidity is displayed as extremely syrupy, reminding us of tinned pineapples before the experience is taken over by the elegant sweetness of white peaches & elderflower. The entire experience is rather delicate, which always reminds us of the beauty & diversity of Ethiopia. 

We’ve been seeing, tasting & enjoying more variety from Ethiopia. It’s a timely & profound reminder of how much the fruits have evolved over generations yet through the last decade of us being immersed in the industry, we have always been able to differentiate Ethiopian coffees from the rest. This coffee is truly delicious & we hope you’ll enjoy this coffee as much as we do!
