We’re feeling really lucky to once again present another exceptional Gesha from Abu Coffee in Boquete, Panama—produced by José Luttrell, whose precision-driven approach continues to elevate the standards of high-elevation Panamanian coffee.
Grown at 1,550 meters above sea level in Boquete’s mineral-rich volcanic soils and cool microclimate, this Gesha benefits from slow cherry maturation, contributing to dense, sugar-rich fruit development. Jose Luttrell’s approach layers innovation onto this natural advantage: this lot underwent a carefully structured process beginning with a 24-hour aerobic fermentation to encourage controlled enzymatic activity and aromatic complexity, followed by a 144-hour anaerobic fermentation in GrainPro bags to intensify complexity while preserving the coffee’s bright clarity. The coffee was then slow-dried on raised beds for 25 days, allowing sugars to stabilise and nuanced flavours to fully develop.
The result is an exquisite balance of freshness, sweetness, and refinement. A lively, fresh acidity carries notes of blueberries and purple plums, which unfold into a syrupy sweetness and a juicy mouthfeel. Aromatics of bergamot and coffee blossom rise gently, lending a perfumed elegance that lingers long after the final sip.
This lot exemplifies the synergy between genetic potential, terroir, and rigorous processing—an outstanding expression of the Gesha variety at its highest caliber.
