We are so fortunate to secure a small lot of this incredible coffee from the town of Nansebo, in West Arsi, Ethiopia. This coffee was produced by Eshetu Mergiya Teklegiorgis & it won 6th place in 2020 Ethiopia Cup of Excellence.

The Cup of Excellence is a prestigious competition & auction for high quality coffees. In a single competition year, more than a hundred coffees are submitted for scrutiny and scoring, leading to a global auction for the ranked coffees. Since its inception in 1999, the program has uncovered countless incredible coffees & producers that have benefited from the premium prices due to the competition’s auctions.

Eshetu began producing coffees in 1990 in his 4.5 hectares farm. He also processes his coffees as naturals at his own processing facility. His coffees were always sold locally due to lack of guidance and knowledge, until a year ago when he started supplying to ECX. However, the prices were very low compared to the effort he felt he put in.

2020 was the first year the Cup of Excellence was held in Ethiopia & Eshetu’s coffee scored 89.21 points, earning him 6th place. His coffee showcases lots of tropical & stonefruit qualities with a light yet luscious mouthfeel. We absolutely adore the intensely sweet acidity as well as a unique elderflower note that lingers in the mid-palate and aftertaste. This is a very limited lot, so don’t miss out!

Brew Guide

15g of ground coffee at medium setting.
93 degrees Celsius water.

Pour ground coffee onto a pre-washed paper filter. Tap the sides of the dripper to evenly distribute the bed.

We recommend using a slow and steady stream of water when pouring!

Start the timer, pour up to 80g.
At 0:35, pour up to 150g, in a circular motion, not forgetting to wash down the high and dry grounds present at the sides of the paper filter.
At 1:05, pour up to 200g.
At 1:40, pour up to 240g.
At 2:05, pour up to 270g.

Wait for the water to drain down, remove the dripper and enjoy your coffee.
